Edmonds Moms Room Podcast Interview

I recorded my first podcast! A few weeks ago I had the privilege of sitting down with Dr. Allison Feldt of Body Motion Physical therapy. Dr. Allison has been an incredible resource for me during my postpartum journey and I'm grateful for the opportunity connect with her and her team.We chatted about postpartum recovery and training, why I love working specifically with women in all stages of motherhood, and the ups and downs of starting a small business.

During my first pregnancy with Benji I didn't change much about my training. I continued to attend the classes I had pre-pregnancy. I also remember round ligament pain so intense that I would hold my sides as I pedaled through a spin class, which I don't recommend.

I remember my doctor giving me very little advice on training, and reading online about avoiding planks and crunches, but that was about it. I didn't know much about breath strategy, diastasis recti, or what to tune into during my pregnancy that would allow me to better "listen to my body." I guess you can say I didn't know what I didn't know, and I find this to be super very common. Postpartum I was eager to return to fitness, and went back to my routine a bit too quickly, which I later learned through work with a Pelvic Floor PT.

Why I Love Working with Women in all Stages of Motherhood: We Deserve Better

Training through all stages of motherhood - trying to conceive, pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond - is different for everyone. We need more than blanket statements. We need to understand and embrace our bodies, the amazing and beautiful marathon of labor, and how we can safely return to movement (which also looks different for everyone).

I am not an expert, but a forever student, eager to learn and support women as best as I can, and refer out as needed. My dream is to teach group classes supporting women out in the sunshine and create programs for all fitness levels and stages of motherhood.2020 has changed things a bit and I am constantly evolving and learning as I go. My focus now is on education and finishing / reviewing programs I've completed and building out a pregnancy training program I can implement with clients, myself, and share with you! I’m also working with online clients. Learn more here. Tune in to the Edmonds Mom Room podcast for a listen. Thank you to Dr. Allison for the opportunity!
