Sleep Now, Party Later: Tips for Getting in Some Extra Zzzz's

Fun

My husband and I both need nine hours of sleep a night. But, let’s be real - that doesn’t happen. Well, except for those magical nights spent in a hotel with big fluffy pillows. You know what I’m talking about? Pure bliss. On average, I get around seven hours a sleep a night, and by Friday - I’m wiped. Between work and adult responsibilities (#adulting), my workout time gets pushed to the 6:00 am time slot. And while I feel like a million bucks post-workout, waking up for that early sweat sesh can be a struggle. But, the truth is - sleep is critical to your fitness routine. It is not possible to reach your fitness goals if your body isn’t allowed the proper time to rest. According to a 2011 survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 25% of Americans report not getting enough sleep. Wow! So, what happens when you DON’T get enough sleep?

How much sleep do you need?

This answer is tricky because it depends on so many factors. Some people need more sleep than others - metabolism, activity level, age, and other factors are all at play. The more physical activity you do, the more the muscles and nervous system break down through stress on the body. The rebuilding happens while you sleep. So, the more you do, the more time you need to rebuild those systems!

These blackout curtains  reflect light to prevent it from entering the room, and they prevent heat from escaping.
