Working Out is Me Time

Working out is the best part of my day (in addition to spending time my husband and doggy of course). That hour is “me time,” 60 minutes of undisturbed sweat. Whether it’s in yoga, pilates, boxing, cycling, or simply going for a stroll around the neighborhood, I gift myself the opportunity to focus on me every day. When I was 12-years-old, I would come home from school and pop in a Tae Bo VHS (remember those!?). I’d punch, kick, and take cues from Billy Blanks before settling in to start my homework. Why is Billy Blanks in spandex important?! From an early age, I recognized the importance of finding the time to “fit it all in.” Yes, I closed the door so my younger brother wouldn’t tease me. But, when those videos were on, I was in the zone and I felt awesome! There are tons of reasons working out is good for your health. But for me, exercise is so much more than a healthy heart and weight control (both very important). Fitness is a way for me to connect with others and build friendships. Sometimes we inspire, even when we don’t know it.A sorority sister of mine (hi Katie) lost 120 pounds prepping for her first Figure competition. I was in such awe of her transformation that I signed up for a show myself.https://www.instagram.com/p/BLrOrF1hN-N/?taken-by=kkoznarekThe people I’ve met through sports and in class have changed my life in so many ways. I’ve learned the value of teamwork, leadership, and commitment. When I show up and give 100%, I do it not only for myself, but for everyone in the room (the team). These people are my fitness family.BarrysworkoutExercising is part of my daily routine, and I’d love to help YOU make it part of yours. HappinessFeeling blue, or just a bit blah? Lace up your sneaks and head outside! It’s safe to say a killer workout, yoga sesh, or even a brisk walk boosts my mood (just ask my husband). Exercises releases endorphins, which create feelings of happiness and euphoria. Boost your confidence, improve self-esteem, and get a happy buzz that will have you movin’ and smiling all day long :)WanderlustSanDiegoMeet your BFFFor starters, I’ve met some of my best friends in class. Week after week these ladies (and gents) and I bond over sprints, wall squats, the look of death (and love) we share with the instructor, and savasana. Being part of a team is powerful, and studies show that most people perform better when paired with a workout buddy. Who wants to be my partner?BoxingFunIncrease ProductivityIt may seem counterintuitive that spending time away from your desk makes you more productive, but various studies have shown that cardiovascular exercise can create new brain cells and improve performance at the office. Instead of eating lunch at your desk (guilty), stretch your legs mid-day and take a walk outside. After some Vitamin D you’ll feel refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of your day. Even better? Invite a colleague to a walking meeting. Talk business, and get that much closer to your 10,000 steps/day. Self-ConfidenceAfter a tough workout my first thought is, “I need to shower.” But after that, I’m usually thinking “Damn, I look and feel like a million bucks!” Exercise has been shown to boost self-esteem, so I have my sweat session to thank for feeling like a rockstar (and you will too!). Regardless of where you are on your fitness journey, exercise can quickly elevate your perception of your bod, and your mood. #SelfLove I would love to learn more about you and your fitness journey. What inspires you to push a bit harder? What inspires you to show up? Let me know in the comment section below, or head over to my Instagram page and say hi. I look forward to meeting you!And remember, working out is YOUR time. Work, commit, and you will see and feel the results. Xoxo,Erica
